What is the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit?

The Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (25C) applies to qualifying HVAC installations completed by December 31, 2025, which allows for up to 30% of the project cost, with annual minimums.

Earn up to $2,000 on Heat pumps, Heat Pump Water Heaters and Central Air Conditioners and Furnaces. North Carolina residents can also earn extra savings of up to $900 through the Duke Energy-Progress Rebate program. Additional details for Duke Energy-Progress Rebates can be found on their website.

How to Claim the Tax Credit:

  1. Find a Qualified Manufacturer: The equipment must meet specific ENERGY STAR standards and be manufactured by a qualified manufacturer.
  1. Keep Documentation: You’ll need to provide receipts and the manufacturer’s certificate.
  1. File IRS Form 5695: This is the form you’ll use to claim energy-efficient property credit on your tax return.

*Be sure to check with your tax professional for additional filing information.
